This is a wallet (or purse) with two roomy card slots, a pocket for your bank notes and a separate coin compartment. It measures 5 inches wide 4 inches long when closed and 9.5 inches long when open. Here’s a tutorial for how I made it.One piece of fabric for the outside 10.5 inches long by 6 inches wide, One inside piece of fabric the same, 2 pieces of iron on stiffening the same (I use Vilene), 2 pieces of pocket lining 4.5 inches long and 6 inches wide, 2 pieces of Vilene the same size. 1 piece of card slot fabric 14.5 inches long and 6 inches wide. 1 zip and Velcro for closure. (I use Velcro fusible) All seam allowances ½ inch unless stated differently.
Iron Vilene onto outside fabric, inside fabric and both pocket pieces. Measure 4 inches from the bottom of the inside fabric and press. Lay your pocket backing just above this iron crease with right sides of fabric touching. Measure 1 inch down from the top of the pocket back and make straight line across the fabric. This is the centre line. Then mark your fabric as shown in the picture below – the ends of this shape are 1 inch from the sides of the fabric. Stitch around the shape (as per the pink lines)
Now carefully cut along the blue lines. Take care to cut the corners as close to the stitching as possible without actually cutting the stitches.
Push the fabric from the front through the hole and smooth out on the back (wrong sides should now be together). Press, press, press!Hole back
Hole front.
Take the zip (which should be longer than 6 inches) and lay it under the hole. Line up the teeth and the zip start so they are in the right place and stitch around the zip.Front
Zip back. Note: zip now trimmed to fit purse.
Lay the other piece of pocket lining over the piece with the zip. Match top and bottom corners. (Right sides of fabric should be touching). Pin and stitch right around the square.
Now you’ve finished the coin compartment.
Make the card slots by marking your fabric at the following measurements. Measure from the bottom of the fabric - 2 1/2 inches, 1 ½ inches, 2 ¼ inches, 1 ¾ inches, 2 ½ inches. Fold your fabric in concertina folds and press. The top stitch across the tops of the folds.
Stitch two rows about 1 inch from the fabric edge. Stitch through card slots. Place the fabric on the inside fabric so the bottoms match up. Then stitch close to the sides of the fabric . This will leave the area behind the card slots as a space for bank notes.
Lay the outside fabric on top of the inside fabric right sides touching. Match up corners. Pin and stitch around three sides leaving the top open.Snip corners.
Turn the entire purse inside out so that the right sides are now showing. Manipulate into shape and press. Turn the outside and inside edges to the inside and topstitch. Press.
Fold the purse and press folds. Topstitch around entire purse close to the edges. Apply Velcro to make fastening. (Velcro fusible is ironed- on from the wrong side and heat fused.)
Sit back and wait for shop assistants, bank tellers and friends to say “Did you make that?” WOW.

I was drawn to your tutorials after reading about your new bag, I want to try to make my own wallet now too. You make it look so easy, but the finished project is so classy. I wonder if it is possible to do this project without a sewing machine, did you do it by hand?
Thanks so much for the pattern! I made a version and posted about it on my blog.
